Items of Want 052

I’ve been searching for a solid shell that can handle the elements but not make it seem as if I’m headed on a multi-day backpacking trip, and I think this is it. To be honest, I really want the one in burnt orange but I’m not sure if I could pull it off.

James Brand the Benton LTD

James Brand offers a refreshing design on everything they make and I’d be more than thrilled to put this pen in my everyday carry rotation. And it looks like it comes with some awesome custom Field Notes notebooks. Those green pages for staple day…

After an early Winter storm brought a ton of slush, I realized I desperately needed to up my boot game, as walking the dog with wet socks is no fun. To be fair, I guess technically he’s barefoot but we tried putting boots on him and he hated it. Long story short: I’m not as tough as my dog.

Olympia Provisions Grande Charcuterie Basket

The holidays are here and even though I enjoy my solitude, it’s the perfect time to get together with friends and family. This basket could really take that “together time” to the next level. And you know what would be extra awesome? Hiking this basket up to the top of a mountain and enjoying it at the summit. You’re sure to make some new friends at least.

klokers KLOK-01 - Desk&Pocket

klokers has really come up with an especially fun way of displaying the current time. And if you know me at all, you won’t be surprised that I love how this desk/pocket watch can easily become the main subject of show and tell. Once I get done parading it around the lecture circuit, I’d most likely leave it in my home office as a permanent timepiece on my desk. Truly an interesting take on displaying time.

Items of Want 051

I have the Daring Book for Boys and think it's fantastic and while I haven't done anything with it other than gently peruse it, I wanted to have it on the bookshelf (for now) as an inspiration to get out and do things. And then obviously someday put the book to use with my kids. Now that we have a girl on the way, I thought it pertinent to get this one specifically. Though I’m sure I’ll be preparing fun stuff to do drawing from both books.

Osprey Poco AG Child Carrier

This kiddo is going to be seeing the world from the get go. My parents understood the importance of travel and I want to pass that along. Also, these babies don’t often come light so she’ll double as my coupon for good livin’ as we ruck all over this pale blue dot.

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”
- Mark Twain

BAD Bags #4 Backpack Duffel Hybrid 69L

I’m told that kids come with a lot of extras. I want to be prepared. At a 69 liter capacity, this oughta do the trick.

Danner Mountain 600

I’m not sure what color combo I like the best but I’m getting close to needing some new boots and I’m willing to give these a try. They seem like something I could easily wear around town as well as the mountains and I’m all about gear that has multiple uses.

[Acquired] Mk II Cruxible, Type A-11

While I love the design and could easily want this watch for myself, I really want to get this as something to pass down to my kid some day. Her birth year watch. See, I want her to have something durable and able to withstand whatever she throws at it and Mk II has more than proven themselves to me with the Paradive. Also, the 39mm size should be more accommodating for most women..

I’m not usually a graphic tee kind of guy but this shirt is just plain cool. Great colors and a classic design make it a winner in my book.

I never heard of these guys before but as a company/family, they did a Wilderness Collective motorcycle trip not too long ago. I can’t seem to find the video from their trip at the moment but it really made me miss being on two wheels.

Worn & Wound Watch Winder

While I haven’t dug too deep into the arguments for or against watch winders, I still would like to have one of these to keep from having to set the date and time on one of my watches when I rotate its use. What I like about this winder is that you can set how long you want it to wind for. See, I’m not in favor of the ones that just rotate endlessly. You wouldn’t keep your car running all the time just so it’s ready to go, right?

Sierra Hotel Mach 0.2 Helicopter Decal

I’ve never ridden in a helicopter let alone flown one but this product’s description, an adaptation of those famous words spoken at the beginning of The Right Stuff, sold me. It also has a great design and just the right amount of subtle humor.

“There was a demon that lived in the air. They said whoever challenged him would die. Their controls would freeze up, their helicopters would buffet wildly, and they would disintegrate. The demon lived at Mach 0.2 on the meter, one hundred and forty-eight miles an hour, where the air could no longer move out of the way. He lived behind a barrier through which they said no man could ever pass...“

These boots just started shipping so you’ll be hard pressed to find a thorough review but I’m still very much interested in a pair. I actually chose this photo because I don’t think any boot looks or feels good right out of the box, you have to break ‘em in and make ‘em your own. I’d like to see what these boots turn into after being put through the ringer a few times.

Saddleback Coffee Mug

After seeing how this mug is made, you’ll probably want one too.

I can't fully explain why I'm drawn to this hat. No one would describe me as "stylish" but I'm really diggin' this hat. Listen to this break in process from the product description: "Few good things look best new, so these have been exposed for 30 days to the elements for natural UV fading, and then open ocean, and fresh water rinsed, you can expect 0 shrinkage and a 1” breakout over time." I'm hooked.

Grovemade Brass Minimalist Knife

While I have a James Brand Chapter knife clipped to my pants pocket every day of the week, I'm always happy to add a quality tool to the ranks. It sounds odd to say that you can't overstate the "understated-ness" of this knife, but those are the words coming to mind at the moment so I'll just go with it. I also find the styling and material choices superb and it's great to hear that this knife is 100% made in the USA. Look, I don't mind chasing quality wherever it leads, but when the home team wins one, I'm extra proud to show my support.

Trouble in Paradise Motel Key Fob

If you know me, then you would probably be surprised that I like this artistic style but I really do. Can't pinpoint why either. And if you knew me, then you'd also know that I only use one keychain on a daily basis so I don't know what I'd use this key fob for but trust me, I'd find a use.

Silver Spring Bar Plier Tool

As a lifelong gadget lover, this tool scratches many itches I have and I have literally no need for it. Well, I mean I could certainly use it but I don't truly need it. There's also some inexpensive alternatives but since Hodinkee had the best photo of it, I linked to them.

KODAK Pocket Pico Projector

I think I'd end up using this little projector for impromptu sessions of show and tell. See, my grandpa would always bust out the slide projector when anyone would stop by his house so I guess I have him to thank for passing down my penchant for show and tell. Same goes for my insatiable ice cream addiction, but that's a different story.

I have a few Schon DSGN pens and love 'em but the colorway of this particular pen is just incredible. Really. Wowza. I've also been a fan of Worn & Wound since the beginning and still believe they are one of the best watch blogs on the Net. Worth a peruse if you're of the horology mindset.

The Ridge Wallet

My Bellroy Card Sleeve has been a trusted companion for many years now but it's starting to finally show its age. While I've never used one of these new-fangled high tech metal wallets, I think I'd like to give it a go. But I really do like the feel of leather...

[Acquired] Seiko SRPC49

I've slowly been realizing that orange and black are two of my favorite colors and when you put them together in a watch, I can't resist. I've seen this watch on various leather and NATO straps and it never looks bad.

James Brand x Salomon: The Chapter

Everything about the design of the James Brand Chapter is just perfect. And by now you know that I love the color orange so I don't need to further explain why this collaboration knife is on my wishlist. I was recently gifted one of these knives (a standard Chapter) and it's by far my favorite knife ever.

Kodiak Cakes Flapjack On The Go

My household is permanently stocked with a big box of Kodiak Cakes (thanks to Costco) but I recently had a chance to try this instant variety of Kodiak Cakes. I'm no food critic but these turn out just fine and are especially tasty if you're in a rush.
